Mommy and Me Photoshoot

As moms, we are always the ones behind the camera. I guarantee that almost every single mom out there has a camera roll full of pics of their kids, grandparents and the kids, pets and the kids, dad and the kids. But no one ever offers for mom to get in front of the camera. Most dads aren’t as shutter happy and rarely suggest “hey mom! Let me get a pic of you and little Johnny.” So unless you walk around with a professional photog in your back pocket you are essentially non-existent. And even if you are at the park or museum or the pool and you ask someone to take your picture, it’s probably an awkward angle with you trying to wrangle your kid and your eyes are closed and your kid is screaming. You feel bad because the random stranger you asked to take your pic seems to be getting annoyed and GOD FORBID you ask to “check the picture” and have a re-do. ha ha ha. Yea! Forget it! So not only are you not in any photos with your kids, but the ones you do have are usually terrible and NEVER candid.

So back in May, Parker was about 18 months old, I got really selfish and decided to schedule a mommy and me photo shoot. I’ve never done anything like this! But Tom was on the road with baseball, we didn’t have many friends in NY who lived close to us, and I wasn’t around family ever. Moral of the story – I was rarely around ANYONE who I could even ask to take my picture with P. So I reached out to a college friend turned photog and she captured these adorable pictures that I will cherish forever! Parker was a disaster! A good disaster! But a disaster! Running around like a crazy person. Not listening. Sweating. Red faced. You name it! But these are some of the only CANDID pictures I have of me and her at this age.

So my suggestion to all mommas! When you schedule those benchmark photo sessions – 6 mos. 9 mos. 12 mos. Jump in a few frames. Even if you look a mess! Even if you have on no makeup or haven’t washed your hair. At least you have documentation that you were there!
