How to Style Your Basics With A Utility Vest

The “it” vest for fall is a utility vest. They’ve been around for a few seasons in the olive/army green, but this season they are out in FULL FORCE! Denim, navy, beige, even camo. And I love it! But I’m a SUCKER for layers. One single layer can totally transform 4 basic outfits (that I’m almost certain you already have in your closet 😉 ) So if you’re tired of wearing the same basic T’s and jeans, thrown on a vest for a whole new look.  This could seriously be the most versatile piece you purchase this fall! And carry it right into winter with a simple turtleneck sweater and then right on into spring with a sleeveless tank or dress.

For play dates, errands, or carpool duty – pair it with simple leggings or jeans, sneakers and basic striped tee. I threw on a fun pair of earrings just to add a little “somethin somethin” 😉 These are my all time favorite jeans!! I’ve written about them a few times and I recommend EVERY short person I know to get them! They are the Legging Skimmer by Gap but they are ONLY sold at Gap Factory. (don’t ask me why but I don’t complain bc they are usually $35 – so I literally own 8 pair). High waisted, amazing stretch, and the best part – they are ankle pants! So on short people they come to the EXACT right spot and they are tight on your ankle! (don’t you hate it when you get crop pants and they flare out around your ankle). This tee is quite possibly the softest thing I’ve ever put on my body! Its Target‘s new brand A New Day. I bought a few colors of these as well.

For a backyard BBQ or lunch date with your girlfriends – throw on a plain tee, a fun piece of statement jewelry, and booties. PSA – short girls also need booties with the “front dip”. I wrote a blog post about this a while back too. ha ha. But this little “front dip” (as I like to call it) elongates your leg. I have these particular ones in two colors. Super SUPER comfy! I wore them all over Napa last year for 5 straight days when it decided to monsoon on our trip and I couldn’t wear any of the other 5 pairs of shoes I packed!

Transition to date night with your boo – Go all black with a bold statement shoe! If y’all have been following me recently, you know I’m OBSESSED with these pumps! The block heel makes them super easy to walk in. They’re so comfy I actually wore them last week for my trunk show and was standing on a concrete floor for 3 hours. Just sayin’….

And if you’re like me and you love to wear dresses because they are just easy, comfy, and it’s an entire outfit in one – here ya go 😉  I can’t rave about this dress enough! The ruching in the front hides anything you don’t want seen! Throw on a vest and you’re hiding anything in the back that you don’t want seen! WIN! WIN!

Cheers to the weekend!
