Create a Home Gym with Amazon

Having a home gym has always been a dream of mine! And we are finally putting one in the basement of our new house. (I’ll be sure to share in the next few weeks). But before this, we’ve always had a little corner of the basement that was a designated workout space. I’ve never spent a lot of money on my workout equipment but it serves the purpose of creating a home gym and gets the job done. You can create an entire home gym with Amazon and turn your spare bedroom or garage into the 5 star gym of your dreams.

There are 7 essential things you need to create a comprehensive home gym.

  1. Comfortable flooring – we’ve used these rubber floor squares in the past and they work great. They are super comfortable and just pop into place. I’ve even taken a few out to do exercises like burpees.
  2. A multifunctional bench – you MUST have a sturdy, multifunctional bench. Whether you’re using it for step-ups or inclined bench press, you need a bench! But not just any bench. It needs to be sturdy and allow you to do lots of different workouts. This is my personal favorite one!
  3. Multiple different dumbbells – dumbbells are the most versatile piece of workout equipment. You need multiple different sizes/weights of these to get a quality, full body workout. But instead of having a huge set of dumbbell weights (like a public gym) we invested in a set of Nuobell adjustable weights. They take up less space and are just as versatile. (scroll to the bottom for more options)
  4. Kettlebells – kettlebells are second to dumbbells IMO. They are great for special workouts, especially ones that require movements with a weight. These swing more efficiently than dumbbells. Again, we bought an adjustable kettlebell for space and ease. But you can also get this adapter to convert any dumbbell to a kettlebell.
  5. A yoga mat – this one is pretty self explanatory. If you aren’t practicing yoga or pilates, you can use this for stretching before and after your workout.
  6. Foam rollers – ok this is the one thing our family absolutely can not live without. We keep two of these in our living room and we both foam roll every single night after dinner, while watching TV. I truly could not live (or move) without my foam rollers.
  7. Resistance bands – this is another super versatile piece of equipment. You can do just about any workout with a resistance band even if you don’t have any dumbbells. These also pack great and travel well; allowing you to do pretty much any workout from a hotel room.

These bonus items will really take your home gym to the next level

  1. Spin bike – as a past cycle instructor, I love love LOVE having a spin bike! I personally have the Peloton and think it is 150% worth the money. The rides are great and the bike is amazing quality. You can always buy a cheaper version and use the Peloton app.
  2. Medicine balls – the quality of a workout you can get by one weighted medicine ball is incredible. The only downfall of medicine balls is that you need a lot of them and they take up a lot of space. But if you get a set with a stand, it can be a huge asset to your workout space.
  3. TRX straps – these straps are possibly one of the most versatile things you can buy for a gym. One strap can give you an incredible FULL BODY workout. We purposefully left a steel beam exposed in our ceiling so we can use a TRX strap. They even make a set for on the GO travelers.
  4. Treadmill – I personally am not a fan of a treadmill, but I know lots of people who are. You could replace this with a walking pad, an elliptical machine, or something similar.
  5. Squat rack – Tom really wanted a squat rack in our new workout space so we added the PRx squat system. It folds up nice and compact and should still give me room to do my workouts. This is great for small spaces or garages.
  6. Yoga blocks – I’m new to yoga, but these blocks make a world of difference. Who knew that a more mature version of my sons rubber blocks was worth so much!
  7. Slidersthese are another fun little add on that can take a workout to the next level. Especially a core workout.

At the beginning of COVID, after we lost our baby girl, I knew I had to do SOMETHING to release some endorphins and start to get myself back on track. Luckily, I jumped on Amazon just before the rush when everything sold out, and pieced together an amazing home gym. The things I’m sharing here are things I actually use every single day. In my workouts.

Wanna know something else I did during COVID? I joined the Faster Way to Fat Loss and even became a coach. This has been the best, most life changing decision I’ve made that extends so far beyond “fat loss”. This has been about nutrition, eating more healthy, setting an example for my girls, and living a long and healthy life. The workouts that come with the program are 30 minutes and all done at home. So this equipment (although not needed for Faster Way workouts) has all been put to use.

These Amazon workout essentials are perfect for creating a home gym or grabbing an item or two to add into your workout routine. Doing a quick, efficient workout in the morning has brought a touch of normalcy to my days that have definitely been running together! Even better, by creating a workout room with Amazon, you can get most of them on Prime and have your workout room essentials to your doorstep before you know it. I so need to get our garage cleaned out so we can set up a little home gym. Ever since Keith got done with cardio rehab it’s been in my plan but ugh…so hard to find time for cleaning out the garage. Thanks for sharing all this stuff!
